Practical Digital Health Systems for Clinics in Humanitarian Settings

Solutions

Village Home Medical

A Digital Health Platform for Low-Resource Clinics in Bangladesh

BACKGROUND

In many underserved villages in Bangladesh, electronic patient record systems simply do not exist. In most cases, there is no formal medical record keeping at all. Where records are kept, patients often carry handwritten notebooks containing their medical history.

There is currently no affordable, centralized system to securely store, manage, and report patient health information.

THE SOLUTION

Village Home Medical is a low-cost, web-based medical tracking system being developed by Global Health Digital to support healthcare delivery for refugees on Bhasan Char Island, Bangladesh.

The long-term vision is to expand the system to serve rural healthcare providers and pharmacies throughout Bangladesh, creating a scalable and sustainable digital health infrastructure for underserved communities.

The platform provides:

  • Secure patient identification
  • Patient ID card issuance
  • Visit tracking and clinical documentation
  • Vaccination tracking
  • Prescription records
  • Reporting tools for donors and oversight agencies
  • Responsible OpenAI integration for informational support
